La Pamplonesa is embarking on a new chapter in its artistic direction. Musician and conductor Carlos Garcés takes over as the ensemble’s new assistant conductor, replacing Jesús Garisoain, who has held this position with the utmost dedication since 1991. After more than three decades at the helm, during such iconic moments for the city as the San Fermín dawn concerts and the Presanferminero concert, among others, Jesús Garisoain is stepping down as assistant conductor. We at La Pamplonesa would like to express our deepest and most sincere gratitude for your impeccable work, your commitment, and your kindness over the past 34 years. Fortunately, his connection to the band will continue, as Garisoain will remain an active member of our band as a clarinetist.

The appointment of Carlos Garcés as deputy director strengthens the artistic future of La Pamplonesa. Garcés has had a long and successful career conducting orchestras and ensembles at the national and international levels; he has conducted some of Spain’s most important orchestras (the RTVE Orchestra, the Valencia Orchestra, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra, and the Navarre Symphony Orchestra) as well as ensembles in France, Switzerland, Portugal, and the United States.

Carlos Garcés’s debut as assistant conductor will not be long in coming and will coincide with one of the most eagerly anticipated moments of the year for the capital of Navarre. His official debut will take place next Friday, June 26, at 8:00 p.m., during the traditional Presanferminero concert in Pamplona’s Plaza del Ayuntamiento— the perfect musical prelude to introducing himself to the local audience on an iconic stage. He will subsequently take on part of the responsibility for organizing the official events of the San Fermín festivities alongside the festival's artistic director, J. Vicent Egea. A festival series that is both technically demanding and deeply rooted in popular culture.

With this appointment, La Pamplonesa ensures the continuity of its artistic excellence and approaches this transition with the hope of keeping its commitment to culture, Pamplona’s musical tradition, and the affection of all its citizens intact.

Thank you so much, Jesus, and welcome, Carlos!
